DRAGONS
ON RAMPAGE, SLAY NEGROS 90-89
A PERFECTLY executed inbound play
had Long David scoring unmolested
underneath as the Pampanga Dragons stunned the
Negros Slashers, 90-89,
last Saturday, March 11, at the University of St.
La Salle Gym in Bacolod City.
David's short stab with 4.9 seconds left
completed Pampanga's agonizing
climb from 20 points down to register its third
straight victory in as
many outings in the MBA FedEx Crossover Cup.
In the return play, Negros' Maui Huelar failed to
beat the clock on a
coast-to-coast drive as the Slashers absorbed
their second defeat in four
games.
Sharing stellar billing with David was Estong
Ballesteros, who sparked the
Dragons' final assault with a seven-point cluster
that shoved them ahead,
88-85, with 52 seconds to go.
The Slashers regained the lead through John
Ferriols' short jumper and two
free throws with 8.9 seconds, but were unable to
check the final play
devised by Pampanga coach Bonnie Garcia.
It was a bitter defeat for the Slashers, who
surged ahead at 48-28 despite
the absence of injured starter Johnedel Cardel.
Pampanga's repeat victory over Negros, coupled by
Davao's 103-90 loss to
Manila in the second game at the Mail & More
Arena put the Dragons on top
of the 14-team field.
